Citizenship is about being a member of a society or community; a person having such a membership is called a citizen. Increasingly students may feel as if they do not really belong to a community or society as the traditional concept of a community arguably no longer exists in the majority of the UK. Nonetheless, each citizen is part of a wider national community and has certain rights and responsibilities because of this. Citizenship as an enrichment topic is a chance to empower students by allowing them an opportunity to get involved in creating positive change.
